Glass can be decorative or utilitarian, and its forms often reflect technological innovations and social change. Drawing on an insightful selection from collections including Bayou Bend and the Yale University Art Gallery, this talk illuminates the vital and often intimate roles glass has played in the art and culture of the United States.

About the Series
Twice a year, Bayou Bend presents renowned scholars who speak about interesting and important aspects of American decorative and fine arts.
About the Speaker
John Stuart Gordon is the Benjamin Attmore Hewitt Associate Curator of American Decorative Arts at Yale University Art Gallery. He received a B.A. from Vassar College, an M.A. from the Bard Graduate Center, and a Ph.D. from Boston University. In addition to his curatorial work, Gordon supervises Furniture Study, which is Yale University Art Gallery’s expansive study collection of American furniture and wooden objects. He is the author of the 2018 book American Glass: The Collections at Yale.
