The Rolling Stones Olé, Olé, Olé!: A Trip Across Latin America
Thursday, Apr. 27, 2017 – Saturday, Apr. 29, 2017
09:00 PM – 10:45 PM
US/Central
As a special addition this year, Latin Wave 12 presents a unique vision of Latin America through the documentary The Rolling Stones Olé, Olé, Olé!: A Trip Across Latin America.
Chronicling the band’s legendary tour of 10 Latin American cities in 2016, the film offers an enticing combination of backstage antics, exhilarating concerts, and historical context. During the region’s military dictatorships, rock ‘n’ roll was banned, so listening to the Rolling Stones was a form of freedom of expression. In Argentina, where Stones fanaticism is at its most extreme, the Stones, being British, were not allowed to enter the country during the Falkland Islands tensions. Culminating in their historic free concert in Havana (for which they received permission at the last minute), this film shows the band’s powerful connection to the wildly enthusiastic fans who greet them in each country.
