Fine art and music by Mozart collide in a progressive, interactive recital that explores women’s rights throughout history. Produced collaboratively by the MFAH and Houston Grand Opera, “Women Transformed through Art & Opera” reimagines three heroines from Mozart’s opera Don Giovanni.

Three singers perform arias from the opera, one in each of three of the Museum’s galleries, in connection with related works of visual art. An MFAH educator facilitates dialogue, examining the treatment of female characters in Lorenzo da Ponte’s libretto for Don Giovanni and the representation of women in two historical paintings and a contemporary installation. Guests can reflect upon the role of women in society from the time the opera premiered in 1787 to today, and consider women’s empowerment in and through the arts.

About the Performers
Featured singers Gwendolyn Alfred, Cecilia Duarte, and Alisa Magallón are accompanied by Kirill Kuzmin on keyboard.
