02:00 PM – 03:30 PM
US/Central

Yoga Nidra Eye Pillow

In collaboration with Compassionate Houston

Yoga Nidra, an ancient guided meditation technique originating in India approximately 1,000 B.C.E., effortlessly quiets the mind and allows the body deep restoration, balance, and improved well-being. In this community event at the close of Compassion Week, Gena Davis will lead a guided Yoga Nidra meditation specifically designed to deepen your compassion for self and others. Gena will also play alchemy crystal bowls to integrate the effects of the meditation and bring your whole self into deeper balance and harmony with a renewed and open heart.

All are welcome and no prior experience is necessary. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat or blankets for comfort and an eye pillow if you have one. Chairs will be available for those who wish to sit.

About Compassionate Houston

Founded in 2011 by Rev. Betty Adam and a nucleus of dedicated co-founders such as The Boniuk Center, Rothko Chapel and Interfaith Ministries, Compassionate Houston was inspired by the Charter for Compassion. Its principles of treating other with respect; encouraging appreciation of cultural and religious diversity; and cultivating an informed empathy with the suffering of all human beings were our aspirational foundation. Compassionate Houston undertook with its early partners, including the City, a number of grassroots service projects whose success allowed Houston to be designated a Compassionate City in 2015 by Mayor Annise Parker, a designation that was re-affirmed in 2017 by Mayor Sylvester Turner. We currently hold annual city-wide Compassion Weeks and Compassion Fests featuring workshops and service projects. We bring internationally known speakers to keynote these annual events.

Education and outreach programs at Asia Society Texas Center are made possible through generous funding from Karen Chang and the George and Mary Josephine Hamman Foundation. Additional support is provided by Friends of Asia Society Texas Center, a dedicated group of individuals and organizations committed to bringing the best in exhibitions and public programming to Houston. Yoga Nidra Compassion Meditation is co-sponsored by Compassionate Houston and Asia Society Texas Center.
