“Masterpiece Dialogues: Great Paintings from The Metropolitan Museum of Art”
Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016
04:00 PM – 05:00 PM
US/Central
Presented by author Kathryn Calley Galitz, museum educator, The Metropolitan Museum of Art
Every painting has a story to tell—and the stories reveal a range of responses, from the challenge of representing three dimensions on a two-dimensional surface to the push and pull of the natural world, and the subjective vision of the artist, all of which inform the creation of a masterpiece.
In this lecture, Kathryn Calley Galitz talks about her new book, The Metropolitan Museum of Art Masterpiece Paintings, which features 500 exemplary paintings from across the globe created over 5,000 years. She offers an ideal introduction to the history of painting as seen through the world-renowned holdings of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
A book signing follows the talk.
