Presented by Ladan Akbarnia, curator of South Asian and Islamic art at the San Diego Museum of Art

Get an inside look at the creation of the British Museum’s Albukhary Foundation Gallery of the Islamic World, from a curatorial perspective. This talk takes you behind the scenes of the challenges involved in working with varied groups of art and objects, and building them into a coherent collection that addresses the many faiths, political organizations, and ethnicities found within the broader sphere of Islamic arts.

About the Speaker

Recently appointed curator of South Asian and Islamic art at the San Diego Museum of Art, Ladan Akbarnia was previously the curator and assistant keeper of the Islamic collections at the British Museum, where she was the deputy lead curator for the redesign of the galleries that contain the museum’s Islamic collection. Prior to joining the British Museum, she was the Hagop Kevorkian Associate Curator of Islamic Art at the Brooklyn Museum.
