In the Palm of Your Hand was awarded eight Ariel Awards by the Mexican Film Academy in 1952, including Best Picture and Best Director. It is one of Mexican master genre director Roberto Gavaldón’s most ironic melodramas. The plot centers on devious fortuneteller and scam artist “Professor” Karin (Arturo de Córdova), who learns about the suspicious death of a wealthy man and tries to blackmail the man’s young, beautiful widow (Leticia Palma) by accusing her of adultery. Gavaldón has a penchant for placing his antiheroes in precarious situations, and Karin’s deceitfulness eventually ends in a darkly ironic twist.
