It is shocking that women in Switzerland did not have the right to vote as late as 1970. This surprising history is explored through the story of a housewife in an isolated village: As a national referendum that could give women the vote approaches, she organizes her neighbors, resulting in her family being mocked, bullied, and shunned. A strong ensemble cast brings the story to its inspirational conclusion when Swiss women finally secure the right to vote in 1971. The Divine Order is Switzerland's submission to the Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film.
