The Children’s Museum of Houston and the Consulate General of Japan at Houston invite you to celebrate the Make a Wish! “Tanabata 七夕” Japanese Star Festival. As legend is told in Japanese culture, Vega and Altair are separated by the Milky Way. They are allowed to meet only once a year on the 7th day of the 7th lunar month. This reunion marks the celebration of Tanabata (or 7th evening).

About the Programs & Activities

SPECIAL EVENTS:

Kamishibai: Experience Tanabata 七夕 with traditional storytelling and learn to write in kanji. 11 am & 1 pm in the Alcove.

Showing Japan: Check out a traditional dance which take you through a whirlwind adventure of Japan. 12:30 pm.

Bon Odori: Embrace Japanese culture through this traditional Japanese dance. 2:30 pm in the Alcove.

ON-GOING ACTIVITIES:

* Tanzaku: Make a wish, write it down on a wish card, and hang it on a bamboo tree in Kid’s Hall.

* Mini Kamishibai: Take home your own traditional storybook made by you in Kid’s Hall.

* Origami: Master the art of Japanese paper folding by making stars in Kid’s Hall.

Tuesday - Saturday, 10:00 am - 6:00 pm
Thursday, 10:00 am - 8:00 pm
Sunday, 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Closed Mondays. Closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, and Easter Sunday.
General Admission: $17 per person and $16 for seniors 65 years and older. FREE for children under one and Museum Members. Free Hours: FREE FAMILY NIGHT: Thursdays 5 pm - 8 pm.
