Stories of the Body: A Workshop for Women

Saturday, Apr. 30, 2016

US/Central

PSYCHOLOGY-AND-LIFE-240X240

Explore how cultural narratives about the female body impact the relationship you have with your own body and your self-esteem. We all have implicit stories about our bodies: what they can do, how attractive they are, how they may limit or enable us. For women, these stories are often colored by critical self-assessments (based on cultural norms of beauty, femininity, gender norms and upbringing) that affect the tone of our internal dialogue.

Through private journaling and coaching exercises, examine how your stories may be empowering you or holding you back, and how these narratives may be revised to allow you to become more appreciative of all aspects of yourself.

About the Class

Elitza Ranova, PhD, ACC, CPCC, is a life coach and a cultural anthropologist. Her research, previously supported by the European Commission, University of London, and Rice University, studies how objective (social, cultural, historical) circumstances enable and limit individual choice, and produce specific—and gendered--life trajectories and personal stories. Previously she taught at Rice University and now runs a private coaching practice that helps women transcend obstacles and flourish in their lives.
