MUSEUM NEW YEAR’S EVE SPECIAL HOURS:  10 a.m. – 3 p.m. 

Kids finally don’t have to stay up till midnight to celebrate the New Year!  The Children’s Museum of Houston’s Rockin’ New Year’s Noon is the city’s longest-running New Year’s Eve celebration just for kids!  This end-of-year bash rings in the New Year at the stroke of noon with a parade and shimmering ball drop, just like in Times Square!  Musical talents will spotlight this New Year’s Eve celebration complete with noon countdown, TWO simultaneous ball drops and DJ dance after party!

Special Events: 

  • Festive New Year's Hats: What would New Year’s be without a festive new hat?
    • Event time:  10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in One World. 
  • New Year's Noisemakers: Ring in the New Year with a festive noisemaker.
    • Event time: 10-11 a.m. and 12-3 p.m. in Tree Top. 
  • Code Red Dance Team: Break it down with Code Red Dance team all about the museum.
    • Event times:  10:30 to 10:45 a.m.; 11 to 11:15 a.m. in Allen Courtyard; 11:30 a.m. joins the parade at the front. 
  • Magic by Jamie Salinas: Prepare to be mystified by the man who has performed for royalty and celebrities. Event time: 11 to 11:20 a.m. in Brown Auditorium; 11:40 to noon strolling in Kidtropolis. 
  • Party with DJ Tangerine: Get ready to welcome the New Year with upbeat tunes.
    • Event Time:  11-12:30 a.m. in Brown Auditorium. 
  • Dance Party with DJ Mr. Duke: Put on your dancing shoes and move to the beat. Event time: 11 a.m. to 12:30 in Allen Courtyard. 
  • New Year’s Noon Parade:  Rock into the New Year with jazzy tunes.
    • Event time: Line up at 11 a.m.; parade begins at 11:30 a.m. in Kid’s Hall Alcove
  • Juggler Noah:  This talented performer really can juggle it all!
    • Event time: 10:45 to 11 a.m. in Allen Courtyard; 11:30 to 11:45 a.m. in Brown Auditorium. 
  • Countdown and Simultaneous Ball Drops:  Celebrate the New Year with a countdown to noon!
    • Event time: Countdown begins at 11:30 a.m. in the Concrete Jungle following the parade.
      • (Second ball drop in Brown Auditorium; auditorium doors open at 11 a.m.)
  • DJ After Party:  Just because the ball has dropped, doesn’t mean the party is over!
    • Event time: Noon in the Allen Courtyard and Brown Auditorium

  • New Frame of Mind: Draft your New Year's resolution and put it inside your unique photo frame at Alexander Art Academy.
  • Prosperous Peas!:  Welcome the new year by growing your own black-eyed peas and learn about parts of a seed at EcoStation.
  • The World is Waiting for You:   Illustrate some of your craziest adventures on our board at EcoStation.
  • Rocket Reactions: Learn all about the chemistry behind canister rockets at Science Station.
  • The Olfactory Knows: Play a matching game with your nose and learn the physiology behind your sniffer in Power Science Lab.
  • DNA Extraction: Extract and examine DNA found in strawberries at Power Science Lab.
  • Cabbage Chemistry: Watch how the anthocyanin in cabbage juice changes colors from deep red to green depending on pH of the substance to which it is added at Power Science Lab.  
  • Starch Testing: Discover the role starch plays in your diet and test for its presence in different household items at Power Science Lab.
  • New Year Noisemaker:  Ring in the New Year with a noisemaker at Junktion.
  • Upcycled Wrapping Paper Jewelry: Upcycle unused holiday gift wrapping paper into beautiful bracelets at Junktion.
  • New Year, New You Crown: Start off 2019 on a good note by noting your resolutions on a New Year’s crown at Junktion.
  • Countdown to 2019:  Be the first to get to get "2019" in this dice game at Math Cart.
  • Christmas Ornaments: Laser cut your own Christmas ornament, then add some LED's or vinyl stickers to bring it to life in Chevron Maker Annex.
  • DIY String Lights: Light up your Christmas decorations by making your own string lights in Chevron Maker Annex.
  • Snow Globes: Make your own winter wonderland within a snow globe in Chevron Maker Annex.
  • Programmable Tree Lights: Code a holiday light show and wrap it around your tree in Inventor's Workshop.

  • Tuesday - Saturday, 10:00 am - 6:00 pm
    Thursday, 10:00 am - 8:00 pm
    Sunday, 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm
    Closed Mondays. Closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, and Easter Sunday.  
  • General Admission: $17 per person and $16 for seniors 65 years and older. FREE for children under one and Museum Members. Free Hours: FREE FAMILY NIGHT: Thursdays 5 pm - 8 pm.
