Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017 – Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017
11:00 AM – 03:00 PM
US/Central
This month, please join HCCC to explore the art of sign painting, inspired by the current exhibition, For Hire: Contemporary Sign Painting in America. Explore the exhibition, and discover how sign painters use their craft to communicate messages and ideas to their communities. Try your hand at painting your own hand-lettered sign, drawing from your own experiences related to your neighborhood, family, or friends. Learn how to incorporate various fonts, spacing, and colors into your sign using paint and stencils. After the activity, share photos of your signs using #crafthouston on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
Note: Please allow 25 minutes to complete this activity. The activity will take place indoors and is on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last.
HANDS-ON HOUSTON is a free drop-in event held the first Saturday of every month. Each month, a teaching artist demonstrates a craft related to the current exhibitions. Families and children of all ages are welcome to come any time between 11 AM and 3 PM and participate in a 15-20 minute activity. Materials are provided. This program supports HCCC’s mission to advance education about the process, product, and history of craft. Learn more here.
