Led by Helga K. Aurisch, curator, European art

In the years following the last Impressionist exhibition in 1886, trends evolved that took painting to new frontiers. Interest in new color theories and motifs, a better understanding of optics, and the aim to move beyond the Impressionists’ desire to capture light and movement resulted in a plethora of new approaches.

Starting with a look at Impressionism, this curator-led Exclusive Tour concentrates on the rich holdings of the Beck Collection’s Pointillist masterpieces by Henri Edmond Cross, Théo van Rysselberghe, Georges Seurat, and Paul Signac, and the Post-Impressionist works of Paul Cézanne and Vincent van Gogh.

The pivotal role of Paul Gauguin, whose 1887 painting Still Life with Mangoes and a Hibiscus Flower constitutes a major recent acquisition to the Beck Collection, is examined with a look at his move beyond Post-Impressionism to becoming the mentor for the younger generations of artists, including the Pont-Aven painters, the Nabis, and the Symbolists.

After the tour, discuss your experience over a glass of sparkling wine.
