Associate Research Curator Clare Elliott will discuss the works in the exhibition Collection Close-Up: The Graphic Work of Dorothea Tanning. Thanks to a recent generous gift from Barbara and Jim Metcalf and the Gallery of Surrealism, the Menil Collection was able to mount an exhibition of prints and rare books by the under-recognized American artist Dorothea Tanning (1910–2012). Dating from 1950 to 2001 and featuring images that range from representation to near total abstraction, these prints and illustrated books allow visitors to experience the breadth of Tanning’s formal innovation.
The Menil’s Curator Talks are in-depth discussions about a single work of art, or group of works, in the museum’s galleries.
This program is free and open to the public; space and seating will be limited. Further information regarding accessibility and parking can be found here.
