In this presentation complementing the exhibition In the Wake: Japanese Photographers Respond to 3/11, Asia Society Texas Center welcomes guest co-curator Anne Nishimura Morse, who will discuss the exhibition, the significance of 3/11, and the events' impact on Tōhoku's artistic community. The program will be followed by an audience Q&A.

Attendees will enjoy free admission the day of the program to the Louisa Stude Sarofim Gallery. The exhibition runs through January 1, 2017, and is open Tuesday-Friday, 11 am–6 pm, and Saturday and Sunday, 10 am–6 pm.

About the Artist Talk

Anne Nishimura Morse is the William and Helen Pounds Senior Curator of Japanese Art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. A graduate of Radcliffe College, she received her Masters degree from Harvard University in East Asian Regional Studies and Ph.D. in the History of Art and Architecture at Harvard. During her more than thirty-year tenure at the Museum, Dr. Morse has organized many critically-acclaimed exhibitions in Japan and the United States including Japanese Masterpieces from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston at the Tokyo National Museum and Double Impact: The Art of Meiji Japan at Tokyo University of the Arts. She has been a visiting lecturer at Amherst College, Mount Holyoke College, and Harvard University. Currently she serves as the co-chair of a bi-national committee that advises the US and Japanese governments on the arts.
