ABOUT THE EVENT

This workshop will ask participants to respond to the material in Axis Mundo: Queer Networks in Chicano L.A. by comparing it to contemporary exhibitions of queer Latinx art in Houston currently on view. By walking through selections of Axis Mundo, viewing footage of interviews with attendees at a recent open-mic in connection with El Chow at Sabine Street Studios, and responding to images of archival and contemporary material, workshop participants will be led by Lawndale artist-in-residence John Pluecker in reflective writing and collaging exercises that will be compiled into a zine and shared with participants as well as distributed online free of charge.

Click here to learn more about Axis Mundo, on view in Lawndale’s John M. O’Quinn and Cecily E. Horton Galleries until Sunday, June 2.
