About Paul Mpagi Sepuya
Paul Mpagi Sepuya (b. 1982, San Bernardino, CA) is a Los Angeles-based artist working in photography. His work is in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney and Guggenheim Museums (all New York, New York); The Studio Museum (Harlem, New York); and MOCA Los Angeles (California), among others. Sepuya’s most recent gallery exhibition The Conditions at team (gallery, inc.) (New York, New York), was reviewed in the New Yorker, the New York Times, Art in America, and he was recently featured on the cover of ARTFORUM’s March 2019 issue. A survey of work from 2008–19 is on view at Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis (Missouri) May 17–August 18, 2019, a project for the Whitney Biennial 2019 opens May 2019, and upcoming exhibitions at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (New York, New York) and the J. Paul Getty Museum (Los Angeles, California) both open in July 2019. Recent exhibitions include Being: New Photography 2018 at the Museum of Modern Art (New York, New York) and Double Enclosure at Foam (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) , Sepuya’s first museum exhibition in Europe, both opened in 2018. Sepuya is currently Visiting Faculty at California Institute of the Arts (Santa Clarita) and Bard College (Annandale-on-Hudson, New York) MFA programs.
