Sunday Family Zone + Studio “Rothko’s Layered Paint”

Sunday, Dec. 13, 2015

01:00 PM – 04:00 PM
US/Central

One of the most famous painters in American art, Mark Rothko embraced the beauty of pure abstraction and created many works of art featuring soft, rectangular forms floating on a field of color, including the ones on view in Mark Rothko: A Retrospective.

Guests can go on an adventure in the galleries, listen to special storybooks, sharpen looking skills with sketching, and create works of art. This suite of programs includes:

  • Sunday Storybook Circle Make connections between a storybook and a work of art in the galleries. (Begins at 1:30 pm)
  • Creation Station At this family-friendly studio workshop, an MFAH teaching artist encourages families to create art using materials or ideas similar to those used by the artist who created the featured work of art on display in the Family Zone.
  • Gallery Adventures Visit the Family Zone, where an MFAH educator has looking games, books, and hands-on activities for families to use in the galleries.
