Platform: Nina Katchadourian: Please, Please, Pleased to Meet’cha
March 19 – September 30, 2019
Live Oak Grove adjacent to the Brochstein Pavilion
The second project in this invitational series of temporary public art engagements with the campus brings celebrated artist Nina Katchadourian’s outdoor sound work, Please, Please, Pleased to Meet’cha (2006) to Rice. Installed among the branches of select trees on campus, Katchadourian’s sound installation features the voices of United Nations interpreters performing the phonetic spellings of various bird calls, invoking curiosity and questioning the limits of language, translation, and species recognition.
