Celebrate the opening of Origins of the Self, a group exhibition featuring work by Houston-area teen artists, organized by CAMH’s Teen Council. Meet the artists and hear short introductions about the work on display. Beverages will be available for purchase at our cash bar. Admission is free and open to the public.
Origins of the Self is a group exhibition focusing on themes of personal identity. Living in a world overwhelmed by social media, teens are navigating how to locate genuine connections and create transparency while understanding their peers through profiles, likes, and comments. In search of how to define themselves online, in school, with family and friends, the young artists in this exhibition explore their response to parental, societal, and cultural expectations. Chosen from almost 400 submissions the work responds to the questions: What is the real you? Where is the real you? How do you define the real you in a constantly changing landscape?
