CAMH will be leading and hosting two sessions that we hope you will join us for:

10-11AM | Hands-On: Experiments with Drawing and Movement
Learn more about CAMH, and how to use contemporary art as a starting point in creating a dynamic and thoughtful hands-on experience. Participate with fellow educators in a drawing workshop that incorporates physical and repetitive full body movements. Inspired by the exhibition Annabeth Rosen: Fired, Broken, Gathered, Heaped and the process drawings Rosen creates, we’ll discuss the labor and intuitive physicality in the work. Reflecting on effort, failure, and repetition we’ll work collaboratively to explore the “reflective muscles” we use in both drawing and dancing. Using this as an example, educators will begin to explore how to create inter-disciplinary projects that use contemporary art to investigate big ideas.

11AM-12PM | In the Gallery: Close Looking, Collaborating, and Creativity
Through a dialogue-based tour of the exhibition, Annabeth Rosen: Fired, Broken, Gathered, Heaped educators will learn how they can encourage students to look closely, ask questions, practice visual literacy, and sensitivity to their surroundings through slowing down and discovering an artwork with their classmates. Using a Visual Thinking Strategies model, participants will be encouraged to look for and find everything that is familiar. Through discussion and reflection, the unfamiliar artwork begins to reveal itself and its origins. As educators participate in conversations around process, materials, and large themes in the artwork the group will work together to create activities for their students including: challenging their imaginations, fostering critical thinking skills, collaborating with others, and building their reflective muscles.
