Celebrate the end of the summer with the granddaddy of all monster movies! This August, Asia Society Texas Center is screening the original, restored 1954 Japanese version of Godzilla (a.k.a. Gojira) outside on our Festival Lawn. A veritable monster mash, this event will also feature fun food, a "Best Godzilla Roaring" contest, and a Kaiju (Giant Monster Movie) trivia contest.

Bring your own blankets, lawn chairs, and snacks to enjoy during the outdoor screening! Non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase. Guests are also welcome to bring their own beverages to this event. Food truck Spicy Dog'N Go will be on-site, offering their standard menu including the "Dogzilla" hot dog. In case of inclement weather, the film screening will move indoors to the Edward Rudge Allen III Education Center. The movie will have English-language subtitles.

This event is FREE and open to the public. Please RSVP for planning purposes.

About the Film

Godzilla was made in Japan at a time when the country was reeling from nuclear attack and H-bomb testing in the Pacific. The titular monster is a rampaging, radioactive beast — the embodiment of an entire population's fears. It has become a beloved international icon of destruction and spawned almost 30 sequels.

Education and outreach programs at Asia Society Texas Center are made possible through generous funding from Karen Chang, Greater Houston Community Foundation, and the George and Mary Josephine Hamman Foundation. Generous funding also provided by the Friends of Asia Society Texas Center, a premier group of individuals and organizations committed to bringing exceptional programming and exhibitions to Asia Society Texas Center.
