Join us at Asia Society Texas Center for a hands-on family workshop to celebrate the arrival of winter! Learn about arts and culture in Japan and China by making crafts together as a family, creating new holiday mementos and memories.
With a few folds, the art of Japanese origami transforms brightly colored squares of paper into animals, flowers, and trees. Learn and practice folding by creating holiday-themed origami such as snowflakes, trees, and gifts.
Woodblock printing has origins in China and a long history in Japan. In partnership with Printmatters Houston, try your hand at creating colorful wintry woodblock prints. Pop into our gallery for a free family tour of our current exhibition, Tsuruya Kōkei: Kabuki Prints Revised & Revisited, featuring nearly 100 woodblock prints.
Learn about the famous Ice and Snow Festival in Harbin, China. Set in Heilongjiang Province in northern China, the festival is the world's biggest snow and ice festival, featuring illuminated ice castles, a snow Buddha statue, more than 2,000 snowmen, and Northern lights-themed ice slides. After you feel inspired (and chilly!), design your own sculpture using foam.
Throughout the workshop, sip on green tea or enjoy hot chocolate. Try Asian sweets, snacks, and cookies; take a Winter Wonderland seflie in our photo booth; and start a family snowball fight.
This event is free for Asia Society members, but all members must pre-register. Tickets for nonmembers are $5, which includes admission for one (1) adult and one (1) child.
Cancelation Policy
