Recently divorced, 72-year-old Violeta (Eugenia Chaverri) lives in her beautiful childhood home in San Jose, Costa Rica. To earn an income, she places an ad for a roommate. When her swimming instructor shows up at her door, a deep and fruitful friendship begins. Violeta discovers that her ex-husband borrowed against her home and the bank is about to foreclose. As she fight back, friends and family rally around her. Reflecting on life, friendship, and family, Violeta at Last demonstrates that it’s never too late to take chances.
“As modest and endearing as its central character, Violeta at Last marks a welcome return for director Hilda Hidalgo.” —Screen International
“[Director Hilda Hidalgo] plays, in a very elementary way, with the architecture of the home ... to express the feeling of confinement of a protagonist who seeks to emancipate herself.” —Caimán Cuadernos de Cine
