'Tis the season for bigger and brighter TXU Energy Presents Zoo Lights!

Event Details

Don’t miss one of Houston’s best loved holiday traditions. Sip hot chocolate as you stroll through the beautiful Houston Zoo grounds and take in the sights and sounds of the season. Earth-friendly LED lighting illuminate our ancient oak trees and decorate the paths to light your way.

Interact with Candy the Zoo Lights Zebra presented by H-E-B, and get a selfie on the giant ice throne! You’ll also have an opportunity to take a photo with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Add additional experiences like decorating your own yummy churros, making yummy s’mores, and much more.

NEW for 2019:
Zoo Lights is 2x brighter! Stroll through a 100-foot-long, Infinity Tunnel of Light presented by KSBJ, experience the 4-D Enchanted Forest presented by King & Spalding LLP, see a giant Ice Dragon come to life, experience “snow” in Winter Wonderland presented by Houston Methodist, plenty of new photo ops, and much more!

Recycle Your Christmas Lights
You can help save animals in the wild and recycle your old or broken holiday lights at the Zoo’s main entrance. 
Since 2016, 18,757 lbs of holiday lights were recycled, the weight of approximately two female Asian elephants!   

Just by attending TXU Energy Presents Zoo Lights, you are helping save animals in the wild.

  • The Houston Zoo does not have its own parking lot; free parking is available in Hermann Park. Please note, parking is limited so consider arriving early or using public transportation. See parking options in Hermann Park.

Themed food trucks with a variety of savory and sweet options. Visit the Masakan truck located near our jaguar habitat for Asian inspired cuisine, and our BBQ Americana trailer for smoked meats and classic sides.

 

Twiga Café

Visit Twiga’s spacious, cool dining room to snack on everything from hamburgers to salads to chicken tenders. Pizza, a variety of other kids’ options, and snacks like fresh fruit, cookies, trail mix, and more are also available. Sit outside and watch the giraffes or rhinos while you eat!

 

Albert & Ethel Herzstein Trading Post

Feeling the need for a sweet treat? Here’s your place. Located at the entrance of African Forest, the Trading Post offers Dole Whips as well as a variety of other snacks and treats, including cookies, large pretzels, and popcorn. You’ll also find beverages like soda, juice and Saint Arnold beer.
