This Hollywood-style musical comedy features an exquisite performance by Mexican comic actor and movie star Tin Tan, one of Mexican cinema’s most brilliant improvisers. Contributing to 106 feature films, actor Germán Valdés established his comic persona as a pachuco. These flamboyant playboy figures—born out of Mexican-American culture—spoke Spanglish and wore chic zoot suits. In this film, Tin Tan impersonates a Hollywood bigwig, producing a grand musical in order to seduce all the beautiful Hollywood actresses.
Tender Pumpkins brings together director Gilberto Martínez Solares’s sophisticated sense of humor and Germán Valdés’s aptitude for exaggerated physical comedy. This collaboration shot Tin Tan to stardom, transforming the pachuco playboy into Mexican cinema’s most memorable comic actor.
