Filmed over a period of five years, this engaging documentary portrays a group of now-elderly women friends who have been meeting for tea for many decades. These immaculately groomed seniors have sustained this ritual throughout Chile’s historic changes.

Maite Alberdi’s camera invites audiences to share these intimate afternoons with the ladies, following the elaborate preparations for their tea parties. They gossip and discuss everything from matrimony to politics to mortality. Although the camera never leaves the rooms where the teas are held, by capturing conversations, songs, and love letters read aloud, this charming film provides a window into the women’s lives, past and present. Alberdi’s newest documentary, The Grown Ups, screens on April 28.
