April is National Autism Awareness Month and the Children’s Museum of Houston will host Sensory Friendly Day on April 3. Sensory Friendly Day is an opportunity for kids with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and sensory processing differences to explore the Museum.  Music, yoga and story time will be among the engaging sensory-friendlyactivities.  Exercise your mind and muscles during Creative Movement!  Doors will be closed to the public. There will be no music and sound-reducing headphones will be available.

Special Events:

  • Social Thinking Storytime - By Success on the Spectrum: Enjoy an interactive storytime. Event time: 10:30, 11:00, 11:30 a.m., and 1 p.m. at Parent Resource Library.  
  • Therapy Horses: Paige Clough, author of Nosey Rosey will bring therapy horses for a touch and feel experience. Event time: 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at Concrete Jungle. Don't miss:
    • Storytime 
    • Photo opportunity 
  • Sensory Friendly Music- Harrison Music Therapy: Explore music through rhythms and songs for children of all ages and abilities can enjoy. Event time: 10-11:45 a.m. at Tree Top. 
  • Houston Ballet: Will present a joyful way for children to explore creative movement classes. Event time: 10 a.m. - 12 p.m at Power Play Alcove. 
  • Recycled Collage Art - Grant's Eco-Art award winning Grand Manier: Children will have the opportunity to work together to create a beautiful recycled art master piece. Event time: 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at Kids' Hall.

Admission is just $5 per person. Children under one and Museum Members receive free admission. To register, please contact Lydia Dungus at (713) 535-7238.

  • Tuesday - Saturday, 10:00 am - 6:00 pm
    Thursday, 10:00 am - 8:00 pm
    Sunday, 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm
    Closed Mondays. Closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, and Easter Sunday.  
  • General Admission: $17 per person and $16 for seniors 65 years and older. FREE for children under one and Museum Members. Free Hours: FREE FAMILY NIGHT: Thursdays 5 pm - 8 pm.

  • Parking fees: 1 hour - $8, 2 hours - $9, 3+ hours - $10. Metered and street parking are available around the Children's Museum Houston.
