Houston’s “Summer of Jane Austen” concludes at the MFAH with Ang Lee’s acclaimed screen interpretation of Sense and Sensibility. Presented in partnership with Rienzi, Brazos Bookstore, and Rice Cinema.

When a widow and her three daughters are left almost penniless, the older sisters—pragmatic Elinor (Emma Thompson, who wrote the film’s Oscar-winning screenplay) and passionate Marianne (Kate Winslet)—are encouraged to marry well so the family can overcome being labeled the “poor relations.” Hugh Grant, Alan Rickman, and Greg Wise present themselves as proper suitors. But will the sisters choose security or love?
