Revitalizing Utopia

PSYCHOLOGY-AND-LIFE-240X240

Guests are invited to enjoy an evening of compelling stories about Jane Blaffer Owen (1915-2010) – Houstonian, philanthropist, supporter of The Jung Center, and friend to Carolyn Grant Fay – who spent six decades preserving and revitalizing the town of New Harmony, Indiana. New Harmony is the site of two of America’s significant communal experiments: the religiously motivated German Harmonie Society and the secular Robert Owen/William Maclure community. As Blaffer Owen transformed the town with commissioned works of architecture, art, and landscape, the town transformed her. It was a place where, she says, “My roots could sink deeply and spread.”

Guests are invited to join Blaffer Owen’s priest and friend, J. Pittman McGehee and her personal editor, Nancy Mangum McCaslin, to learn more about this vibrant woman and her memoir, New Harmony, Indiana: Like a River, Not a Lake.
