PSYCHOLOGY-AND-LIFE-240X240

Develop a necessary relationship to an inner compass capable of guiding when one steps into the unconscious – the “prima materia.” Individuation requires the expansion of consciousness and the owning and integrating of aspects of one’s shadow. Jung said this work boils down to learning to see and hear in ever new ways; however, this inner ongoing revelation cannot sustain itself without refining one's own inner BS detectors. The god Hermes – trickster, light bringer, and boundary crosser – can assist in this sobering work.

In the Friday night lecture, the group will examine mythic material focusing on Hermes and humor, using stories from various traditions including coyote stories from American Southwest Native tribes. On Saturday, the group will look at Hermes’ role in motivating love relations to help discover the loving, guiding spirit of wisdom within oneself. Through active imagination, writing exercises and small group dialogue, the group will explore what it means to live with the growing revelations of the inner BS detector.
