About the exhibition
Think of Them as Spaces: Brice Marden’s Drawings is an exploration of the artist’s draftsmanship and the catalytic role the medium plays within his practice. This exhibition presents six series of drawings that span nearly the entirety of the artist’s ongoing career, including early graphite and wax drawings, The Seasons, and Cold Mountain. Brice Marden (b. 1938) gained distinction in the late 1960s, and he continues to chart an unique course involving systematic investigations of color and ratio, abstract and intuitive gestures, and the studied imprecision of calligraphic line.
