Indo-American Association and Asia Society Texas Center are delighted to present sitar maestro Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan and violinist Lalgudi Krishnan in a wonderful once-in-a-lifetime instrumental concert.

About the Performance

Shahid Parvez Khan, Sitar Maestro

Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan belongs to an illustrious musical family and has achieved success in preserving the tradition and pushing its boundaries. He is a student of Etawah Gharana and belongs to the seventh generation of this musical lineage. A young Shahid Parvez was recognized as a child prodigy and had started performing in public by the time he was only eight. One of his numerous achievements is to have mastered both vocal music and the “Tantrakari Baaj,” fusing them in such a way as to bring this complex amalgam within the easy reach of all. He is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards including the Government of India's “Padma Shri” and the “Sangeet Natak Academy Award.” He has performed in all major musical festivals in India and abroad, enthralling the audience everywhere.

Lalgudi G.J.R. Krishnan, Violinist and Composer

Lalgudi G.J.R. Krishnan is an internationally acclaimed violinist and composer, and the senior most disciple of violin maestro Lalgudi G. Jayaraman. He is the fifth generation Violinist in a family of musicians belonging to Tyagaraja Sishya Parampara. With rigorous family training, he honed his innate skills to become a much sought after accompanist. He has accompanied stalwarts in the field of carnatic music, including Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer, Nedunuri Krishnamurthy, and Maharajapuram Santhanam. Mr. Krishnan has been performing Jugalbandhi Concerts with leading North Indian Musicians and has also performed in Fusion concerts and has released many CDs.
