Join HCP for the opening reception of two new exhibitions, Her Feet Planted Firmly on the Ground and PictureThis!

In the nineteenth century, male photographers featured the female in the landscape as an object or an allegory of sexuality or Mother Nature—something to be gazed upon—rather than an active force. Her Feet Planted Firmly on the Ground features the work of 6 photographers who reference this history, as a foundation for their work as they insert their new perspectives into the genre. Through self-representation, whether symbolic or through self-portraits, the artists in this exhibition firmly plant themselves in this new, yet familiar cultural landscape.

PictureThis! is an exhibition of work created by participants in HCP’s Access and Community Education program with the Periwinkle Arts In Medicine Program at Texas Children's Hospital Cancer and Hematology Centers (both Main and West Campus) and The Quality of Life Program in the Renal Department at Texas Children’s Hospital. HCP’s teaching artists work with patients on a variety of projects aimed at engaging creativity and exploring key learning topics, which encourage motor, emotional and developmental skills. The program enables young patients to focus on cultivating imagination while learning new technologies, art practices, tools, and skills that cross multiple disciplines. The PictureThis! program has successfully stimulated dialogue and offered meaningful photography education in the healthcare setting for more than a decade.
