Former U.S. Ambassador to South Korea Christopher Hill will discuss recent challenges as the United States attempts to deal with North Korea's military buildup, including the nation's development of long-range missiles and nuclear weapons. Attention will be given, as well, to the role of South Korea and China in relations with North Korea. Analysis of the recent summit and political meetings will also be provided along with the next steps that would be necessary to provide positive results. Ambassador Hill will share his insights into how the world community can address these nuclear threats.

About the Speaker

Ambassador Christopher Robert Hill is currently the Chief Advisor to the Chancellor for Global Engagement and Professor of the Practice in Diplomacy at the University of Denver. Prior to this position, he was the Dean of the Josef Korbel School of International Studies at the University, a position he held from September 2010 to December 2017. His previous roles also include U.S. Ambassador to Iraq (2009-10), Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs (2005-09), U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Korea (South Korea) (2004-05), U.S. Ambassador to Poland (2000-04), and U.S. Ambassador to the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (1996-99).
