Celebrate Halloween with one of the first feature films directed by the only woman to win an Academy Award for best director: Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker). Near Dark is her ghastly humorous vampire Western. Adrian Pasdar stars as a farm boy who is kidnapped by a band of traveling vampires after he is “turned” by a beautiful drifter. The late Bill Paxton is memorable—as always—as a howling, leather-clad badass who prefers less-hirsute victims when hunting small-town bars.
“Kathryn Bigelow's solo directorial debut is still the best horror/Western hybrid ever made.” —Birth. Movies. Death.
“High-powered but pared down, slick but spare, this is a tale that introduces the unearthly into the banality of rural American existence.” —Variety
“One of the best vampire movies ever made.” —Radio Times
