Reception: Friday, August 17, 2018 from 6pm-8pm

Nearly one year after Hurricane Harvey hit Houston, the impact of the catastrophic storm can still be felt all around our city. In partnership with the National Geographic Society, Houston Center for Photography invites you to join us in reflecting on this past year as we celebrate the work of 20 Houston-area students who show us life after the storm.

From August 13th through August 16th these students, who come from various high schools and colleges around the Greater Houston Area, will work directly with National Geographic photographers and editors to tell their stories through photography. Their week of work will culminate in a pop-up exhibition in HCP's main gallery on the evening of Friday, August 17th from 6-8pm. We hope you can join us for an evening of reflection, storytelling, and photography.

Since 2003, National Geographic has partnered with various organizations around the world to provide photography camps to youth from underserved communities, giving them a voice through photography. World-class National Geographic photographers and National Geographic magazine editors provide students with a personalized, immersive learning experience, inspiring the next generation of photojournalists. Then, through intimate presentations in their own communities and public exhibitions that reach millions of viewers, National Geographic Photo Camp showcases the students’ perspectives on issues that are important to all of us.
