MEET ARTIST BRIAN FLEETWOOD

Saturday, Aug. 8, 2015

10:00 AM – 05:00 PM
US/Central

Guests are invited to meet New Mexico metalsmith Brian Fleetwood, who is in town to talk throughout the day about his ongoing project, Artificial Dissemination. Mimicking biological communities through systems made up of jewelry and their human hosts, the artist illustrates epistemology—the theory and organization of knowledge.

About the Artist Talk

Fleetwood utilizes the human body as a habitat for his jewelry, as his pieces appear to grow from their wearer like lichens. For the upcoming Artist Hall exhibition, Artifice of Nature, Brian will create a few new pieces based on his visit to Houston.

Featuring his work and the work of Susan Beiner, Artifice of Nature (September 12 – December 27, 2015) explores the way in which nature is captured, reconstructed, presented, and dissected for human enjoyment and consumption.
