Presented by Cristina Garza, producer and international sales agent

Dalí and her new boyfriend, Chavez, travel to Mexico’s coast with her eight-year-old son Pepe in tow. Their attempts to have a good time at the all-inclusive resort seem forced. The place has seen better days, and being crammed into one room does not make things easier. Pepe misses his recently deceased father. Dalí wants to spend time with her son but feels disengaged, while Chavez struggles to figure out how to pay for the whole escapade. As tensions mount, each sets off on a separate adventure that underlines the disjointed nature of this new family unit.

Alejandra Márquez Abella’s feature debut elegantly illustrates one of life’s most poignant conundrums: Being surrounded by beauty can sometimes make your pain that much more pronounced. Funny and tender, yet unafraid to explore melancholy, Semana santa immerses viewers in the enigmas of the human heart.
