ABOUT THE HONOREE

The Honorable Kevin Brady represents the 8th Congressional District of Texas and serves as Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. With jurisdiction over taxes, health care, Social Security, Medicare, international trade, and welfare, Ways and Means is widely considered one of the most powerful committees in Congress.

As Chairman, Kevin is focused on advancing solutions to enhance economic freedom and strengthen America’s economy for the long term. Under Kevin’s leadership, the Ways and Means Committee in 2016 led several important parts of Speaker Paul Ryan’s “Better Way” agenda, including the development of a detailed blueprint for comprehensive pro-growth tax reform. Building off this work, he and the Committee are now working closely with the Trump Administration and the Senate to deliver the first overhaul of America’s tax code in more than 30 years.

Kevin previously chaired the Ways and Means Committee’s Health Subcommittee and served as Chairman and Vice Chairman of the bicameral Joint Economic Committee. Until 2013, he chaired the Ways and Means Trade Subcommittee, where he led the successful effort to pass new sales agreements with Panama, South Korea, and Colombia. In addition, he played a key role in the passage of the Dominican Republic–Central American Free Trade Agreement.

Prior to his election to Congress, Kevin worked as a chamber of commerce executive for 18 years and served six years in the Texas House of Representatives. He is a Distinguished Alumnus of the University of South Dakota and lives in Montgomery County, Texas, with his wife and two sons.
