Explore Houston's History street by street! Our walking tour of Downtown Houston follows Congress Avenue from historic Courthouse Square with its infamous hanging tree to Market Square and the oldest standing commercial building in Houston, which is a former stop on the Pony Express. Along the way we'll discuss overlooked stories of Bayou City history, like the Civil War prison camp beneath downtown and the epic romance that left an enduring mark on Houston's skyline.
This walking tour with Christopher Wells of HMNS is sure to be a fun and enlightening experience for everyone who comes along. Advance registration is required. Participants will meet in Market Square Park for a 2-hour walking tour. We'll be walking on unleveled sidewalks and streets through Downtown Houston. Directions will be emailed prior to excursion. This excursion is rain or shine, but will be rescheduled if stormy conditions.
