“A Journey to Central Asia: Ikat Pattern and Process”
A still recognizable pattern in today’s culture, the ikat was once considered a luxury fabric in Central Asia and was traded along the Silk Road with other precious goods. Over 150 years ago, ikat-patterned fabrics were worn as pieces of traditional clothing and often resembled shapes found in nature. In this homeschool workshop, explore the meticulous process that designers used to craft fabric and try your own hand at creating these natural patterns.

Homeschool Family Workshops are specially designed programs for families who homeschool children ages 6 to 12. Each workshop features activities that encourage parents and kids to learn about art together. Activities are interdisciplinary and teach about art and how art relates to other curricular areas, such as language arts, science, and social studies. Parents are provided with materials and additional information to integrate the Museum into their curriculum.
