During HISD’s Spring Break week, join HCCC for hands-on making and other activities that encourage visitors, ages three and up, to explore craft and art making. Although it’s normally closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, HCCC will be open all week for this event.

>>Hands-on Activities & Ask-Me Docent Tours, 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM

>>Self-Guided Activity Cards & Sketching in the Galleries, 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Each morning of the week, participants can experiment with different materials, tools, and techniques through hands-on activities, demonstrated step by step by teaching artists and volunteers. Throughout the day, families are invited to spend time in the galleries, sketching, looking at art, and talking with experienced docents.  Visitors will discover kinetic sculptures, asteroid paintings, and installations in Escaping Earth: The Kinetic Work of Casey Curran and explore unique works that bring imaginative characters to life in Drawn to the Work: Illustration and Craft in Conversation.  Visitors will also have the opportunity to explore the resident artists studios to gain insight into the inspirations and artistic processes of working artists.  HCCC Spring Break is free and open to the public.

Hands-on Activities
Hands-on activities require about 25 minutes to be completed. Activities will take place indoors and are on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last. Families and children, ages three and up, are welcome to participate any time between 10 AM and 1 PM. Materials are provided, and teaching artists and volunteers give step-by-step instruction.
