The Himalayas are an essential element of South Asia, not just because of the geographical prowess of the mountain range. The five bordering nations — Bhutan, China, India, Nepal and Pakistan — all depend on the Himalayas for resources, making territorial disputes a constant. This workshop will cover a variety of current topics that should be taught in social studies classrooms, including:
- The importance of the Himalayas
- Key resources provided by the mountain range
- Cultural and political effects of the Himalayas
Teachers will walk away with ready-to-use lesson plans, resources, and ideas for classroom activities.
This workshop will count as six hours of professional development credit pending approval by the Texas Board of Educators Certification. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
