Who better than hip independent filmmaker Jim Jarmusch to persuade iconic musician Iggy Pop that it was the right time for a documentary about the history of The Stooges, the rock band he cofounded? Formed in Ann Arbor and establishing themselves as part of the Detroit scene, The Stooges’ powerful and aggressive style of rock-n-roll blew a crater in the musical landscape of the late 1960s. Assaulting audiences with a blend of rock, blues, R&B, and free jazz, they planted the seeds for punk and alternative rock in the decades that followed. Scenes from their shows, interviews with Iggy Pop, and commentary from his former bandmates trace the trajectory of a band that influenced generations of musicians.
