Get your mind STEAM-ing during a day filled with genius ideas to get you inspired and have you geeking out!  Stop by the Flint Hills Resources Genius Station, our newest component in How Does it Work?, to meet our expert "Geeks." Take part in science demos and interactives, catch battling robots, learn how to build them, meet a kid inventor and more! Whatever you do, remember to think geek!

Event time: Sept. 28, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

SPECIAL EVENTS:

  • Battle Bots Workshop: Bust out your best robot moves! Work with builders from Houston Battle Bots to build and play against other bots in these one-hour workshops. Space is limited.
    • Event times: 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. in Courtyard
  • Kid Inventor Owen Cowan: Stop by to meet a real kid-ventor to talk about tinkering, tapping into your creativity and even see some of his creations!
    • Event time: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Kids' Hall Alcove
  • Lifting Fingerprints: Become a detective to find fingerprints with fluorescing and magnetic dusting powder.
    • Event time: 11:30 a.m. at Flint Hills Resources Genius Station
  • Suck It Up!: How does a vacuum work and how does it affect objects? Put balloons, marshmallows, squishies and more to the air pressure test!
    • Event time: 12:30 p.m. at Flint Hills Resources Genius Station
  • Chladni Plate: See the "ripple" effect come up in the sand when you generate sine and mechanical waves.
    • Event time: 1:30 p.m. at Flint Hills Resources Genius Station
  • Musical Friction: See and hear the power of friction in action as you make a splash with a Chinese Resonance Bowl and a super loud ring with a Singing Rod.
    • Event time: 2:30 p.m. at Flint Hills Resources Genius Station

  • Modern Mosaics: Piece together an original work of art by arranging colorful bits to create one unified masterpiece in Art Academy.
  • LEGO Masks: Love LEGOs? Become a LEGO-person when you create this mask in Junktion.
  • Stylin' Sun Glasses: Shade your peepers from the hot sun by getting creative and making a pair of crazy shades in Junktion.
  • Smart Hydrogels: See how ionization affects the change in volume and shape of hydrogels in Science Station!
  • Inspired by Nature: Match cool inventions to its natural inspiration in EcoStation.
  • Reduce Reuse Recycle: Can you help the environment by reducing, reusing and recycling? Learn how in EcoStation.
  • LEGO Workshop: Use DUPLO blocks to create marble mazes, LEGO blocks to create pixel art, LEGO CAD to learn about digital design and more in Inventor's Workshop.
  • Tabletop Games: Build your own game to bring to your next family game night in Chevron Maker Annex!

  • Tuesday - Saturday, 10:00 am - 6:00 pm
    Thursday, 10:00 am - 8:00 pm
    Sunday, 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm
    Closed Mondays. Closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, and Easter Sunday.  
  • General Admission: $17 per person and $16 for seniors 65 years and older. FREE for children under one and Museum Members. Free Hours: FREE FAMILY NIGHT: Thursdays 5 pm - 8 pm.
