In partnership with the Consulate General of Japan in Houston

In this food event for families, learn the Japanese art of packing a Bento lunch! Bento boxes are an expression of creativity, a delight to both the eyes and the taste buds, and a great way to bring a delicious lunch for an outdoor picnic. In Japan, people prepare Bento boxes for picnic lunches to enjoy the spring hanami (cherry blossom viewing).

Learn about the history and styles of Bento boxes, including the ingredients used, how food is prepared, and influences from different aspects of Japanese culture. Have fun creating and customizing your own Bento box using fresh ingredients, then enjoy your delicious Bento together with family and fellow guests outside on our lawn during a viewing of Okko's Inn at 7:30 p.m.!

This workshop is designed for those with little to no experience, and is appropriate for all ages. Families with children, adults, and lifelong learners are welcome!

Limited spots available for this free event; RSVPs are required. Please RSVP one ticket per person. All children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets will not be available on the day of the program. Not recommended for people with food allergies or food sensitivities.

Free and open to the public; RSVP required for planning purposes
