Edmund de Waal's latest book The White Road: Journey into an Obsession is an intimate narrative history of porcelain, structured around five journeys. He calls his previous work, internationally best-selling memoir The Hare with Amber Eyes, “the biography of a collection and the biography of my family.” The personal book—part mystery, part detective story—uses the 264 Japanese netsuke that passed through five generations of the Ephrussi family to chart the ascent and decline of a Jewish dynasty.
