EAT WELL, PLAY WELL

Saturday, May. 16, 2015 – Friday, Jan. 1, 2016

One of The Health Museum's most popular summer exhibits returns to Houston, nearly triple in size! Eat Well, Play Well, explores nutrition and fitness in 22 engaging and interactive areas include things like, test your flexibility and balance, learn about veggie power, take the calorie quiz and much more. Visitors will be on their way to becoming a fit and healthy know-it-all! Sponsored by PMB Helin Donovan, the nearly 2000-square-foot hands-on exhibit appeals to children and their families by exploring healthy ways to snack, play and be active. All description panels are in both English and Spanish.

Eat Well, Play Well encourages healthy living by teaching the science of making healthy food choices and helping children and adults discover there are many fun and interesting ways to stay active. Visitors will discover what an appropriate serving size looks like, see firsthand what it takes to burn off calories, test their flexibility and balance, review the latest clinical research and realize that they can reduce their risk of disease with healthy choices.

Eat Well, Play Well features 22 interactive areas with both Spanish and English information all highlighting interesting and fun facts about food and exercise. At the eye-opening “Sizing Up Servings” area, visitors are challenged to match recommended serving sizes to everyday objects. “Eat A Rainbow” teaches us that it’s important to eat fruits and vegetables from each color group. At "Fuel Your Body," visitors choose from a variety of breakfast foods to fuel their car and then "race" their car against another based on nutritional fuel intake. "Sports Nutrition Food:  Fact & Fiction" teaches how energy drinks and protein bars are advertised as necessary for performance, but participants learn about unhealthy ingredients that negatively affect the body. In  “Calories In, Calories Out,” visitors choose a from different foods, healthy or unhealthy and then have to pedal a hand cycle for the indicated time required to burn off the calories from junk food compared with healthier choices.
