Presented by Krista Thompson, professor, art history, Northwestern University

Krista Thompson researches and teaches the modern and contemporary art of the African diaspora, with an emphasis on photography. Thompson has curated several exhibitions, including the recent touring show EN MAS': Carnival and Performance Art of the Caribbean, and is the author of Shine: The Visual Economy of Light in African Diasporic Aesthetic Practice (Duke University Press, 2015). She is working on The Evidence of Things Not Photographed, a book that examines notions of photographic absence and disappearance in colonial and postcolonial Jamaica.
